About Myself
I was born in Argentina in 1964, and arrived in Australia at the age of 12 in 1976. After completing my high school studies in Chester Hill High, I did my undergraduate studies in aeronautical engineering in the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Sydney. After graduating in 1987 with honours I class, started my Masters in the area of helicopter aerodynamics also in this department, and I was awarded an ME(Res) in 1993. During that I was tutor to most courses in aeronautical engineering and in 1991 I was employed as an Associate Lecturer. In 1994 I started my PhD in the area of Evolutionary Structural Optimisation (ESO) and I graduated in April of 1998. In 1997 I was appointed Lecturer in the same department.

During 1999 I had sabbatical leave form the University of Sydney and spent 6 months at the Engineering Design Centre (EDC) in the University of Cambridge. Towards the end of my stay there I applied and was given the job of lecturer in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds.

I started my lectureship position at Leeds on the 13th of June of 2000, where I am still today. Due to my aeronautical engineering background I developed the aeronautical and aerospace engineering programme of study here at Leeds. I am now its deputy programme manager. The Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering programme was started in the 2002-2003 academic year with 15 students. The first class graduated on the 17th of July of 2006. The programme is going from strength to strength and is the second highest engineering programme in the school.

In 2003 I was promoted to Senior Lecturer. My current teaching commitments include:

I like to climb and go to treks. I have been to Nepal (Annapurna and Langtang Valley) and Peru (Machu Picchu). Some pictures of where I’ve been are at the end of this page.
 
My Research Interests
Evolutionary Structural Optimisation (ESO)
My main research interests are in the areas of Evolutionary Structural Optimisation (ESO) , Structural Optimisaton, Genetic algorithms,Shape and topology optimisation using Genetic Algorithms (GA), optimisation of a bicycle frame Aircraft Structural Analysis.

Structural and Finite Element Analysis
My interest in the area of structural analysis lie in the area of Aircraft Structural Analysis and rapid/real life Finite Element Analysis by utilising the Fixed-Grid meshing method.

Computer Based Learning Modules
The development of Computer Based Learning (CBL) modules to assist in the learning of Mechanics of materials and Finite ELement Analysis modules, written in HTML format for access using the World Wide Web.

Helicopter Rotor Aerodynamics
Research on helicopter rotor aerodynamics and dynamics and manufacture of helicopter flight simulator using a radio controlled model helicopter.
